What is a Digital Prototype?
Digital prototyping is a preliminary step to the actual fabrication or prototyping of an idea. It is less expensive than building physical prototypes. “Digital” by nature can be seen but not held. While many digital prototypes may look like the real thing, they can not be touched.
Digital prototypes are made in 3d CAD software like Onshape or Fusion 360. Once design is complete, the 3D or 2D file can be exported into all of the popular digital formats used by manufacturers. We can also export into formats that can be 3d printed.
